11am. Deb­bie Gilmore, Exec­u­tive Direc­tor of The Arrow­smith Pro­gram, dis­cussed plans to bet­ter equip 100+ schools help­ing stu­dents with spe­cial needs: 

 

11.45am. Xavier Louis, CEO of Peak, out­lined their plans to bring to mar­ket engag­ing, self-serve and evi­dence-based dig­i­tal ther­a­peu­tics:

 

12.30pm. Mel Barsky, Direc­tor at Cen­tre for Aging + Brain Health Inno­va­tion (CABHI), announced a new call for inno­va­tion where CABHI will be fund­ing nov­el ideas from point-of-care work­ers that can help to improve brain health in old­er adults:

 

1.15pm. Syd­ney Swaine-Simon, Co-Founder of Neu­rotechX, intro­duced new learn­ing resources and their grow­ing com­mu­ni­ty of neu­rotech experts, entre­pre­neurs, and enthu­si­asts:

  • Franck Tarpin-Bernard, Man­ag­ing Direc­tor of Sci­en­tif­ic Brain Train­ing (SBT), dis­cussed new part­ner­ships fol­low­ing their ISO 13485 cer­ti­fi­ca­tion for med­ical devices — cog­ni­tive reme­di­a­tion.
  • Jes­si­ca Poulin, Strate­gic Oper­a­tions Man­ag­er at the Arrow­smith Pro­gram, pre­sent­ed plans to bet­ter equip 100+ schools help­ing stu­dents with spe­cial needs.

These pre­sen­ta­tions took place at the 2016 Sharp­Brains Vir­tu­al Sum­mit: Rein­vent­ing Brain Health in the Dig­i­tal Age (Decem­ber 6–8th, 2016).

Try Thinking and Learning Without Working Memory

 

 

Imag­ine dial­ing a phone num­ber by hav­ing to look up each dig­it one at a time in the phone book. Nor­mal­ly, you look up the num­ber and remem­ber all sev­en dig­its long enough to get it dialed. Even with one dig­it at a time, you would have to remem­ber each dig­it long enough to get it dialed. What if your brain could not even do that! We call this kind of remem­ber­ing, “work­ing mem­o­ry,” because that is what the brain works with. Work­ing mem­o­ry is crit­i­cal to every­day liv­ing.
