Elizabeth Frates, Director of Medical Student Education at the Institute of Life Medicine, to speak @ 2014 SharpBrains Virtual Summit
We are proud to announce that Dr. Elizabeth Frates, Director of Medical Student Education at the Institute of Lifestyle Medicine, will speak at the 2014 SharpBrains Virtual Summit (October 28–30th) about How front-line professionals can incorporate the emerging brain health toolkit to their practices.
Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) Frates is trained as a physiatrist as well as a health and wellness coach. Her expertise is lifestyle medicine, and she works to empower patients and groups of patients to reach their optimal level of wellness. As Director of Medical Student Education at the Institute of Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Frates is the faculty advisor for the Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group at Harvard Medical School. She is interested in teaching, research, and clinical services around wellness. Developing programs in lifestyle medicine and the field of wellness is her passion.
Her Harvard Extension class, Introduction to Lifestyle Medicine, recently adopted The SharpBrains Guide to Brain Fitness as core reader.
- Course description: This course provides the knowledge, skills, and tools for health and wellness coaches and related professionals to effectively and efficiently promote healthy lifestyle development/changes in their clients/patients. Students participate in a combination of lectures, group discussion, and experiential education to better appreciate the integral role of coaching in true healthcare reform. They also gain confidence with the practice of wellness coaching, utilizing the science, practice, and tools of lifestyle medicine as they counsel patients to improve their overall health and well-being (nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, social engagement and connection, cognitive stimulation, nature, emotion regulation, mindfulness, meditation, and stress management).
