Elizabeth Frates, Director of Medical Student Education at the Institute of Life Medicine, to speak @ 2014 Sharp­Brains Vir­tual Sum­mit

BethFratesWe are proud to announce that Dr. Eliz­a­beth Frates, Direc­tor of Med­ical Stu­dent Edu­ca­tion at the Insti­tute of Lifestyle Med­i­cine, will speak at the 2014 Sharp­Brains Vir­tual Sum­mit (Octo­ber 28–30th) about How front-line pro­fes­sion­als can incor­po­rate the emerg­ing brain health toolk­it to their prac­tices.

Dr. Eliz­a­beth (Beth) Frates is trained as a physi­a­trist as well as a health and well­ness coach. Her exper­tise is lifestyle med­i­cine, and she works to empow­er patients and groups of patients to reach their opti­mal lev­el of well­ness. As Direc­tor of Med­ical Stu­dent Edu­ca­tion at the Insti­tute of Lifestyle Med­i­cine, Dr. Frates is the fac­ul­ty advi­sor for the Lifestyle Med­i­cine Inter­est Group at Har­vard Med­ical School. She is inter­est­ed in teach­ing, research, and clin­i­cal ser­vices around well­ness. Devel­op­ing pro­grams in lifestyle med­i­cine and the field of well­ness is her pas­sion.

Her Har­vard Exten­sion class, Intro­duc­tion to Lifestyle Med­i­cine, recent­ly adopt­ed The Sharp­Brains Guide to Brain Fit­ness as core read­er.

  • Course descrip­tion: This course pro­vides the knowl­edge, skills, and tools for health and well­ness coach­es and relat­ed pro­fes­sion­als to effec­tive­ly and effi­cient­ly pro­mote healthy lifestyle development/changes in their clients/patients. Stu­dents par­tic­i­pate in a com­bi­na­tion of lec­tures, group dis­cus­sion, and expe­ri­en­tial edu­ca­tion to bet­ter appre­ci­ate the inte­gral role of coach­ing in true health­care reform. They also gain con­fi­dence with the prac­tice of well­ness coach­ing, uti­liz­ing the sci­ence, prac­tice, and tools of lifestyle 2014_SharpBrains_Virtual_Summit_Shaping the Practice and the Future of Brain Fitnessmed­i­cine as they coun­sel patients to improve their over­all health and well-being (nutri­tion, exer­cise, sleep hygiene, social engage­ment and con­nec­tion, cog­ni­tive stim­u­la­tion, nature, emo­tion reg­u­la­tion, mind­ful­ness, med­i­ta­tion, and stress man­age­ment).
