Explore the Future of Public Health & Brain Health with David Bartrés-Faz, PI of the Barcelona Brain Health Initiative

September 12, 2017 by Alvaro Fernandez

We’re happy to announce that David Bartrés-Faz, Principal Investigator of the new Barcelona Brain Health Initiative, will be speaking at the 2017 SharpBrains Virtual Summit (December 5–7th).

The Barcelona Brain Health Initiative (BBHI) is a new research project promoted by the Institut Guttmann, with the support from members of Harvard Catalyst and Harvard Medical School, already recruiting over 3,000 healthy volunteers (without medical diagnosis of neurological disease or psychiatric condition) between 40 and 65 years old. During the next few years the BBHI study will study the specific strategies that can help to improve brain health:

  • public health programs to enhance the brain health of entire population groups.
  • strategies to prevent or delay the onset of neurological diseases and their consequences.
  • new therapeutic alternatives to reduce the disability associated to damages nervous system.

David Bartrés-Faz is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychobiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Barcelona. His research interests are mainly focused on the study of cognitive and brain aging and early stages of dementia, using data from neuropsychological testing, biomarker information as well as structural and functional MRI and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques (transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current stimulation).
