Walter Reed’s Kate Sullivan on How to Set Up a Brain Fitness Center to Enhance Cognitive Retraining and Rehabilitation

Kate Sullivan will run an educational workshop on  How to Set Up a Brain Fitness Center to Enhance Cognitive Retraining and Rehabilitation, at the upcoming 2012 SharpBrains Virtual Summit (June 7–14th, 2012).

Description: Learn the nuts and bolts of opening a rehab-oriented “brain fitness center”, including staffing, measurement of behavioral/ cognitive outcomes, selection and rollout of interventions, and integration of center-based with home-based use. Learn the obstacles and tips for replicating such a center in a satellite location.

  1. Participants will gain insight into conceptualizing their own computer-based rehabilitative environment as an educational/library experience, a gym, a clinical tool, or a research project.
  2. Participants will learn about the essential resources needed to launch a “brain fitness center”, from identifying an appropriate patient population to program marketing.
  3. Participants will determine how to set clinical expectations by determining if the goal of your Center is to enhance normal cognition, maintain or slow down decline or remediate impaired cognition.
  4. Participants will be able to determine appropriate intervention tools based on the population served, staff availability, patient participation and patient motivation.
  5. Participants will receive an overview of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s Brain Fitness Center to include research and lessons learned.
